Wildfiber Visit – Los Angeles Yarn Store
No trip to Los Angeles is complete for me without a visit to One Pico, the restaurant inside Shutters, which overlooks the beach in Santa Monica. The food is always great and the views refreshing.
After a walk along the beach, we headed over to Wildfiber, a yarn store in Santa Monica which several people have recommended.
Nestled in the middle of a strip of stores, Wildfiber is a great oasis for yarn lovers. There’s homey feel from the minute you walk in the door and a large sitting area for knitters to hang out and significant others to nap. If I lived in the Los Angeles area, this would be one of my LYS.
While the staff were attentive, they didn’t follow you like you were going to steal a ball of yarn like some stores do. The phone kept ringing with customers hoping to stock up before the Thanksgiving holiday, I guess yarn can be more comforting than some relatives.
There was a large selection of wools including some old standards as well as some unusual finds. I had a difficult time choosing what to buy. I wound up buying a skein of Pagewood Farm’s Glacier, a thicker sock yarn than Chuguak, in a black with reds and golds. While I didn’t have a project in mind, I’ve discovered that wonderful skeins of sock yarn can be used for a variety of different projects other than socks.
I know that I will be back to visit Wildfibers the next time that I’m in Los Angeles.
