Blast from the past-One of mom's handmade sweaters

Dad wearing mom's hand made sweater

Since it’s been very cold in New York, my dad got out his heaviest sweater which my mother made him when I was a kid. I remember the big brown cardboard box arriving full of maroon yarn.

As a knitter, I have a better appreciation for this sweater now than I did during the extended period of time that my mom spent knitting because my dad was 6’5″ and the sweater is very big. It’s got 4 cables in the front combined with a garter rib and 2 cables on each sleeve. (Note:  Check out the great detailed finishing around the armhole area.)

Do you have a sweater that someone special knit for you when you were younger? If so, please add your response in the comments.

  1. What a beautiful sweater! I see where you get your knitting talent from.

I’ve kept a couple of sweaters my Mom made for me years and years and years ago. At the time, I really didn’t like them. What an unappreciative brat I was!
